On Nimb, you can sell Polymarket shares at any time before the market resolves: open the position and use Close position. You receive the current bid for your shares, minus Polymarket's taker fee where the market has one and Nimb's small builder fee. If you hold to resolution, winning shares pay $1 each and losing shares pay nothing.
Can I sell before the market resolves?
Yes. Shares trade until the market resolves, so you can close a position whenever there is a buyer on the order book. Selling locks in a gain or a loss now, instead of waiting for the result. People close to take a profit after the price moves their way, to cut a loss when their reading changes, or to free up money locked in a long-dated market.
A sale needs a buyer. On a thin book there may be few bids, or bids far below the last price.
How do I close a position on Nimb?
At launch the steps are:
- Open your portfolio and click the position, or open the market from the map. The panel shows your side, shares and entry → mark.
- In the ticket, choose Close position. The ticket switches to a sell of all your shares on that side, and shows what you would receive at the current bid, fees included.
- Read the sentence. It states shares, price and the amount you receive.
- Sign in your wallet ("Confirm in your wallet"). The sell order goes to Polymarket from your own wallet, with Nimb's builder code.
- The receipt shows what filled and what you received in pUSD.
Selling fewer shares than you hold, or selling at a set price with a limit order, works the same way through the order ticket.
How much will I get if I sell now?
Roughly: shares × bid, minus fees. Selling hits the bid, not the mid or the last trade, so the spread is part of the price of closing.
Worked example in an illustrative politics market (Polymarket rate 0.04). You bought 237 Yes shares for $100 at 41%. The market now shows bid 48%, ask 50%, mid 49%.
| Line | Value |
|---|---|
| 237 shares × bid 48% | $113.76 |
| Polymarket taker fee (237 × 0.04 × 0.48 × 0.52) | −$2.37 |
| Nimb builder fee | small, deducted |
| You receive, before the builder fee | ≈ $111.39 |
| Cost of the spread versus the mid (237 × 1 point) | $2.37 |
So a move from 41% to a 49% mid is worth about $11 net, not the $16 the mid suggests. If the book is thin, a large sell also walks down through lower bids. The "Before you trade" checks flag thin books before you buy, which is the best time to think about how you will get out. See fees and all-in pricing.
Do fees apply when selling?
Yes, on sells that fill at once (taker orders):
- Polymarket's taker fee applies in fee-charging categories, with the same formula as buys: shares × rate × p × (1 − p). Geopolitics is fee-free.
- Nimb's builder fee applies to sells placed through Nimb: a small builder fee, included in the price you see.
- A resting limit sell that fills as a maker pays no Polymarket fee.
Redeeming winning shares after resolution is not a trade and carries no trading fee.
What happens to my shares when the market resolves?
When the result is known, someone proposes it to the UMA oracle and, if nobody disputes it within the 2-hour challenge period, the market resolves. A disputed result can take 4 to 6 days. Then:
- trading stops; you can no longer buy or sell;
- each winning share can be redeemed for $1 in pUSD;
- losing shares are worth $0;
- in the rare 50-50 outcome, each share redeems for $0.50.
Polymarket sets no deadline for redeeming: winning shares stay redeemable after resolution. Nimb shows resolved positions in your portfolio with a button to redeem them from your wallet. You can also redeem on polymarket.com with the same wallet. More in how markets resolve.
What if I am in a close-only country?
Some countries are close-only: you can close positions you already hold, but you cannot open new ones. At the time of writing (2026-11-07), Polymarket lists the United States, the United Kingdom, France and about 35 other countries and regions as close-only. Nimb checks Polymarket's geoblock endpoint before every order: in a close-only country the buy side is disabled and Close position stays available. In fully blocked, sanctioned places no orders are possible. Do not use a VPN to get round this; follow your local law. See eligibility and restricted countries.
